The graduate program in Preservation Architecture at CAED is articulated in:
- a graduate Certificate in Preservation Architecture (CPA)
- a Master of Architecture (32) Post-Professional with a focus in Preservation.
The program leading to the graduate Certificate in Preservation Architecture (CPA 16) is an opportunity for architecture students and graduates, as well as professionals interested in continuing education, to acquire specialized knowledge and skills in the area of Preservation Architecture.
The curriculum focuses on specific foundation knowledge in Preservation, with particular regard to methodology, assessment criteria, preservation techniques and legislation.
The program is offered in various options:
- entirely in Kent
- partly in Florence, Italy (short 4 week term) and partly in Kent
- entirely in Florence (intensive 10 week program)
The Florence option is offred at KSU Study Abroad Program in Palazzo Cerchi, a newly renovated XIII century palazzo located in the very heart of Florence, few blocks from Piazza della Signoria. Being based in Florence and required to take various field trips, the students have an opportunity of being exposed to important examples of building and urban preservation in Italy and in other European countries.
The Master's program (MArch PPS 32) offers a completion of the professional training for a preservation designer, and it is focused on design skills for conservation, re-use and new additions to existing structures.
Credits earned towards the CPA may count towards the MArch in Preservation.
