Twelve miles east of Poprad, Levoc'a is recognized as the cultural capital of former Spis' County. A wealthy trading town built by German-speaking immigrants, it has a well-preserved medieval center. Its most famous sight is the carved wooden altar in St. Jacob's Roman Catholic Church, completed around the year 1500.
